Stella Welcome to Your Doodem is a tale of empowerment and self-discovery. Join young Stella, as she journeys to find her Doodem (Clan). Stella is a young Metis-Anishinaabe girl who just received her spirit name Memengwaa Ikwezens (Butterfly Girl). After her Naming Ceremony, Stella hears an animal cry from the woods. Her Papa tells her that an animal was calling out to welcome her into the Clan.
Determined to find out who that was, Stella sets out on a journey meeting each of the seven Clan Animals. This story teaches readers about who the clan animals are from the Anishinaabe Clan System and the role each of the clans plays in our community. This story features words in the Anishinaabemowin (Ojibwe) language.
